The Waterman’s Challenge will be one of several outrigger events, during the larger Tahoe Outrigger Challenge weekend of events. This particular event, to be held on Sunday morning, will be a fast paced and dynamic relay event that will test the participants overall paddling abilities both as an individual and as a team.
If you are a SUP paddler(s)and want to participate in this event. Contact : Therese Colwell | 530-412-1772 | firstname.lastname@example.org
Not just a race. An adventure.
Teams will consist of six members, and all teams will be co-ed, 3 women and 3 men. We are doing this to keep placing and awards simple, and to make this a true integrative measure of a clubs paddling depth. There will be two classes however, an A division and a B division. And all teams will be using boards providing by one of our sponsors, South Shore Stand-up, and all boards will be the same. No Unlimited canoes, will be allowed, only Bradleys and Mirages (boats meeting the 400 lb rule).
The A division will be defined by, 3 or more of the team members have there own personal SUP, and have participated in at least 3 competitive SUP events (in any division, anywhere, any time), AND, 3 or more members have trained or raced with an Outrigger club. All other teams will be in the B division. There is no reason to over analyze this, just make an honest assessment of your team’s experience, based on the above criteria, and enter the appropriate class. We want to encourage some combined teams, where Clubs recruit their local SUP friends and community to participate. Prizes are different by division so don’t low-ball your entry! A Dynamic Three Stage Event
Leg 1 – Three of your team members will race a 1 mile SUP course around buoys set up in a diamond shape.
Leg 2 – The remaining 3 team members (who did not SUP in the first leg) will race the same 1 mile SUP course around the buoys.
Leg 3- All six paddlers on your team will paddle the last leg, together – an approximate 1000 meter sprint in an OC 6.
Your finish time is when your last SUP paddler crosses the finish line. You will want to plan your strategy for how to have your stronger SUP paddlers help your weaker paddlers. (Paddlers will be allowed to draft, on anybody). You cannot deliberately knock someone over, but you can help run defense around the buoy turns.
This will be a true test of skills, strategy, and teamwork!
